In recent weeks, Aston Martin's "alleged" billion-dollar bid to lure Max Verstappen has caused quite a stir. Günther Steiner believes the move will be successful, as it is an unimaginable sum...
While there is currently no guarantee that Aston Martin will become a top team, there are signs that point in that direction. Steiner says Verstappen will accept the offer even if Aston is not competitive:
"A billion is a huge amount. Even if Max was in last place, he would still accept a billion right away. Not many teams can afford that, but Aston certainly can, they can put a billion salary on the table. It's a high barrier, an absolute record in the history of F1, probably no one will be able to overcome it. I mean, if it's real and not just speculation... I don't think it is. The reason why I don't think it will happen is the current driver pairing. Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll have contracts until 2026, I don't think Fernando would leave, and I don't think Lawrence Stroll would sacrifice his own son on the altar of business. However, from 2027, the situation will be completely different..." - Steiner left the door open.
