One of Mercedes' most highly regarded engineers told the New York Times how the seven-time world champion managed to become so successful.
Andrew Shovlin believes that in this process, work ethic, obsession, or desire to evolve were not essential, but rather a morbid phobia of defeat!
"I don't think there's another driver like him. He has a completely unique vision, I really enjoyed working with him. He's extremely dedicated to success and demands the same dedication from everyone else. But what really made him great, what's his real superpower, is his almost morbid phobia of defeat. He's terribly afraid of it, so he does everything he can to convince those around him to avoid it. I don't know any other competitor who has such a strong mentality. It's obvious that we all hate defeat, but the concern and the desire to act against it puts Lewis Hamilton far above the rest." - said Shovlin with admiration about his former driver.
