There was some dispute between the older and younger Carlos Sainz as to which option would be the best direction for Carlos Sainz JR. In the end, the younger Sainz listened to himself and, according to him, he does not regret the choice.
Moreover, even Alpine would have offered him an opportunity, but he apparently chose the weakest option of all:
"My dream was to move to Red Bull or maybe Mercedes, but it didn't work out. After that, I had to choose between Audi, Alpine and Williams. After visiting the teams, the factories, talking to everyone, an immediate instinct told me: go to Williams, they want to achieve a better future. And when not only my mind but also my heart said that, I knew that they would be my path. I know that my father felt very good with Audi at the Dakar Rally, he has a very good relationship with them, he would have wanted me to move there, but I hope that he will forgive me for not choosing them. I would like to prove to him that I made the right decision! When I got into their car last year for the first time, I immediately felt that they were full of enthusiasm, motivation and that they wanted to get back to the front of the pack. Also, the car behaved well, our test this year went excellently, the developments are working. I don't know how much all this will matter, how close we will be "We may not be in the leading peloton, but I hope that we will constantly improve as a team and, eventually, the time will come when we become competitive." - said an optimistic Carlos Sainz.
