The special stage continued at the Mexican Grand Prix, in the second stage, Pirelli was able to test the 2025 compounds. This time we didn't escape the red flag either, this time George Russell destroyed the Mercedes.
Free practice had barely begun when Russell lost his car on a corner exit and suffered a serious accident. We didn’t realise then that this would be the “most exciting” moment of the practice, nor that we would have to worry about Russell’s health, who complained of rib pain during the remaining time. This was exactly the situation, while the Pirelli tyre test was monotonously, boringly and quietly going on, with the drivers using unidentified tyres. So we didn’t really know who was using which compound, the most we could draw conclusions from the timekeeping results. Only towards the end of practice did a few medium tyres appear here and there, this was only possible for those who didn’t take part in FP1, but this didn’t change the overall picture. FP2 was eventually won by Carlos Sainz, ahead of Oscar Piastri and Yuki Tsunoda, but today we were none the wiser about the balance of forces.
