It was no surprise, but a surprising double success and a crowning of world champion at the Las Vegas Grand Prix was born.
George Russell had a perfect start, unlike Carlos Sainz and Pierre Gasly, who were overtaken by Charles Leclerc in two corners. Max Verstappen also had a strong start, but was caught in traffic, so he only managed to get close to fourth place. We quickly reached the first stop, Fernando Alonso's start with soft tires did not work at all, so the Spaniard had to change already on lap four. In the meantime, Sainz regained second place from Leclerc and would have headed for Russell. But the Briton had already built up a big enough advantage that it seemed that it would be enough until the end of the race. Leclerc had difficulties, and Verstappen overtook him without any problems, fighting not only for a better ranking, but also to be crowned world champion. But Gasly had nothing more to fight for, his Alpine broke down...
By then, the entire grid had gone through stops, and the fronts had stabilized, making it obvious that two changes would be the winning strategy. Only Mercedes could talk about relevant tire management, all the others were constantly struggling with grip and getting their tires into the operating zone. In the end, Mercedes easily won the Las Vegas Grand Prix, in the order of George Russell - Lewis Hamilton, authoritatively overtaking the Scuderia Ferrari team, consisting of Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc.
But, what is perhaps more important, is that Max Verstappen made sports history, becoming world champion for the fourth time at the wheel of Red Bull Racing.
