From a European perspective, I didn't see anything surprising in the sprint race at the Chinese Grand Prix, which started in a less than friendly interval. But it was truly historic!
Lewis Hamilton had a perfect start, as did the entire grid, which started without any problems. Not long after, Lando Norris, who was in third place, tried a too bold maneuver and fell to ninth place. But Yuki Tsunoda felt the pace better, and was already in sixth place by the third lap - probably not only for the valuable points, but also a little for a place at Red Bull Racing... Meanwhile, Liam Lawson was modestly in 18th place after a questionable overtaking. At the front, Hamilton maintained his advantage of about a second over Max Verstappen, but around lap eight, the Dutchman came within attacking distance. However, nothing came of that action, and Verstappen even had to focus on Oscar Piastri, who was coming from behind. By then, the fronts had stabilized, and on the track we saw practically only trains of cars. Eventually, Piastri caught Verstappen, but he did not have enough time or tires to target Hamilton. Thus, the Briton won his first sprint race and achieved the Scuderia Ferrari victory over Oscar Piastri and Max Verstappen.
