Not unusual news - thank heavens, this time in a positive context - the famous Belgian racetrack has made the news.
King Philippe of Belgium has announced that this year the Kingdom of Belgium will issue a coin honoring one of the most famous, if not the most famous, racetrack in the world.
In countries using the euro, it is common practice to issue two types of 2-euro coins with a new design each year. The obverse of these coins pays tribute to essential themes, important to the issuing country or to Europe.
In his statement, King Philippe mentions that the reverse of the “Spa-Francorchamps euro coin” will feature the outline of the track, with two numbers on the left: 7004 and 1921. The first obviously symbolizes the current length of the track, and the second represents the year of its opening, as races were first held there that year. An official design for the coin has not yet been received, but it doesn’t hurt to pay attention: you will be able to get a wonderful Formula 1 souvenir, and for free!
