A former race engineer for Carlos Sainz recently shared an interesting observation. Tom Stallard - who currently works with Oscar Piastri - believes that the Spaniard's work could make the McLaren team competitive, without him they wouldn't have gotten here.
However, according to Stallard, Sainz benefited greatly from those times, which allowed him to join the Scuderia Ferrari team:
"He is a brilliant driver, who clearly helped increase McLaren's competitiveness. Although at Renault he was not considered a real asset, at us he showed what immense potential he has, we urgently needed his services. He contributed enormously to our project, we would not have gotten here without him at that time. And we helped him restore his self-assessment, thanks to him, today he is truly considered one of the best drivers.
Now, at Ferrari, he exerts the same beneficial influence that he had with us, having a huge role in the Reds' fight for the constructors' championship." - came an unexpected but huge praise from the opponent.
