Many people shrug their shoulders in disdain when the name Fernando Alonso is mentioned. Not one of them is Karun Chandhok, a former F1 driver, who believes that, with the arrival of Adrian Newey, Alonso could become world champion at 45.
Chandhok believes the situation is very similar now to when Newey joined Red Bull Racing, a mid-table team. At the time, Formula 1 was preparing for major rule changes, and now it is exactly the same situation, from which Chandhok deduces that, like RB, Aston Martin could be extremely strong:
"In 2007 and 2008, they were mainly preparing for building their structure and for the big changes in 2009, and although Brawn surprised them with the double diffuser, in the second half of the season they were already the best. The rest we all know: between 2010 and 2013 they won all the world titles, they dominated the circuits for four years. I think something similar is happening at Aston Martin now, and if they manage to do a good enough job in 2025, then in 2026 they could have an explosive development under the new regulations.
"It would be an incredible story if Fernando won his third world title at 44-45 years old with a car created by Adrian Newey. He certainly believes in it too, that's why he's still in the competition!" - mused the Indian expert.
