The bottom line and what is most important, if Max Verstappen wins his next race too, then there is no question, he is world champion. If that doesn't happen, however, the crowning ceremony for the champion could take place in Las Vegas, or maybe Lando Norris could avoid it...
We show you how:
If Verstappen finishes second, Norris absolutely must win to maintain his mathematical chances.
If Verstappen finishes third, Norris must finish at least second. However, if the Red Bull driver manages to set the fastest lap, it would mean winning the title for him anyway.
If Verstappen finishes fourth, Norris needs at least third to keep his hopes alive. If the Dutchman finishes fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth or ninth, then Norris needs to overtake him by at least two places. If Norris manages to set the fastest lap of the race, then it is enough to finish one place ahead of him, thus (theoretically) remaining in the race. If Verstappen finishes tenth, Norris needs to be in the top eight. Finally, if Verstappen does not score points, then Norris would have to finish at least ninth, all of which, of course, includes the fastest lap.
